Tennis phenom Serena Williams embodies what it means to a legend on and off the court, so it’s only fitting that she has been named Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year. At 34, she has risen to the top as the highest ranked women’s tennis player and won three Grand Slam titles, along with 53 other matches, this year alone. Off the court, she slays on the red carpet and her amazing sense of fashion birthed her very own clothing line Serena Williams Signature Collection.

Williams shared on Instagram:

This year was spectacular for me. For Sports Illustrated to recognize my hard work, dedication and sheer determination with this award gives me hope to continue on and do better. As I always say, it takes a village it’s not just one person. This is not just an accomplishment for me, but for my whole team and all my fans. I am beyond honored. I love you guys! 2016? #letsdoit

She is the first individual woman to win this honor since 1983 and she definitely deserved it. Click through to see move photos of Serena Williams’ Sports Illustrated spread.
