If you’ve seen just about anything Beyoncé in the past eight years, then you’re sure to have been captivated by the fierce redhead Ashley Everett, who serves as Beyoncé’s lead dancer and dance captain.
Since the age of 17, the stunning beauty has played an intricate role in the creative process of everything Beyoncé — from her music videos such as “Single Ladies” and “Run the World (Girls)” and commercials like H&M and Pepsi, to her live performances and world tours I Am, The Beyoncé Experience, and The Mrs. Carter World Tour. She has also performed on every major stage from the Grammy Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and World Music Awards to Glastonbury and the 2013 Super Bowl XLVII.
She’s also been featured on television shows such as The X Factor USA, Shake It Up, Glee, and most recently, VH1’s Hit The Floor. She was recently nominated by fans as the Choice Dancer for the 2015 Fox Teen Choice Awards and returned to Hit The Floor’s season 3 as Devil Girls’ Peyton!
We caught up with this incredible lady to chat about what’s going on in her career and, of course, all things her red mane – which was inspired by Beyoncé!
Hype Hair: Tell us about your latest projects.
Ashley Everett: I just finished shooting the third season of VH1’s Hit The Floor. I can be seen on every episode as Devil Girls’ Peyton. I was in the pilot episode, but by the time the show got picked up, I was already back on the road with Beyoncé. Every season, the writers reach out to see if I could return, but I was on the Mrs. Carter Tour, then the On The Run Tour. But this past time, I wasn’t touring for once, and was able to do the full season.
HH: You have beautiful hair. What are a few steps you suggest to achieve it?
AE: The key is keeping it moisturized and healthy. I also try to avoid putting heat on it as much as possible and keeping my hair trimmed regularly.
HH: Is your hair natural or relaxed?
AE: I’ve always been natural. Anytime I’ve straightened my hair, it was pressed or blown out, but never chemically straightened.
HH: What are your favorite hairstyles?
AE: I love a good half up/half down, a good bun or ponytail, an all the way down, either curly or straight, and I also love doing two buns at times.
HH: How do you feel about extensions?
AE: I’m not opposed to them. They are good for enhancing what you already have. I prefer clip-ins as opposed to sew-ins personally.
