From tennis powerhouse to fashion designer, 21-time grand slam winner Serena Williams graces the highly anticipated fashion issue of New York Magazine, and gives us her the scoop on her next big move. Williams, who’s earned the title as the number one player in women’s tennis, deftly displays power and grace in the multipage spread that’s both sizzingly hot and gravity-defying.
In her interview with New York, Williams discusses her family, career and plans for post-tennis life saying,
“I didn’t think it would last this long,” says Serena, on break from the HSN grind.
“Not to suggest that your career is over — ”
“But even if it was over,” she interrupts, “it’s a really long career.”
The 33-year-old athlete has broken barriers not only in the world of tennis, but also as a face of fashion. From designing her own clothing line, Serena Williams Signature Collection, to stunting on every red carpet she hits, Williams is taking the fashion world by storm.
“We brought fashion back to tennis,“ said Serena of she and her sister, Venus. “It was great when Chris Evert was around. Tracy Austin had some great designs. But the ’90s was not a good time.”
