We love when our readers take mane matters into their own hands and test out the latest trends and DIY techniques. This week, we are saying ‘bravo’ to Jasmine Pettis who created a quick and easy protective style that is sure to turn heads.

Using three packs of Kanekalon hair, curlers and a latch hook needle, she achieved these crochet braids in less than five hours. Prior to installing the Kanekalon hair, Pettis washed and set sections of the hair on curlers and allowed them to dry for an hour.

“I curled the hair before installing it,” Pettis said. “I hate sticking my hair in boiling water to try to curl once it’s on my head.”

When asked about the products that were used during this process, Pettis said that she used Africa’s Best Herbal Oil and water in a spray bottle.

“I did a hot oil treatment with the Africa’s Best oil before I braided my hair, then spritz it for shine before bed every night,” she said.

Depending on the upkeep of this style, one can keep it in anywhere from 2-4 weeks. Pettis plans to keep this protective style up for three weeks before moving on to something new.
