From Lena Horne to Grace Jones, Cynthia Bailey has had a wide range of legendary glamour queens who she looked up to while growing up, but it wasn’t long before she became a beauty icon in her own right!

After signing with Wilhelmina Models in New York City, Bailey became one of the top models in the industry, landing lucrative endorsement deals with Maybelline and Oil of Olay, and nabbing countless magazine editorials with many of the world’s top fashion magazines. As an in-demand high fashion model, Bailey was a regular during Paris and Milan fashion weeks, and today, she still rips the runway for such notable designers as Betsey Johnson and more!

Bailey’s public profile has grown tremendously over the last few years due to her stint on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. During Bailey’s run on this hugely popular reality television show, she parlayed her modeling experience into building her own full service modeling agency and school. The Bailey Agency helps to train and prepare aspiring models for the modeling world. In fact, Bailey and her team at The Bailey Agency coordinated our Hype Hair Model Search contest.

Bailey recently took some time out of her busy schedule for some girl chat with us and here is what she has to share about all things hair and beauty!

Is your hair relaxed or have you embraced the natural hair movement?
My hair is relaxed. Yes for now, I am a relaxer girl. I love my natural sisters, but I’m just not there yet.

What are some of your favorite red carpet hairstyles?
My favorite red carpet hairstyles are usually pretty simple. I love messy buns and slick ponytails with evening looks. It’s a more modern and edgy look.

Your hair always looks fabulous, and we love the different styles that you wear. Who is your personal hairstylist?
Nataki Minix, owner of Star Taki Hair Lounge. I completely trust her vision when it comes to my hair. We collaborate on ideas, and work very well together. She knows that I’m fearless when it comes to my hair, so we just always go for it!

How often do you visit the salon?
I try to visit the Star Taki salon every two weeks to come up with new hairstyles with Nataki, but my schedule is crazy, so when I can’t make it in, I have my other hairdresser—yes I actually have two!— Corliss Aldred, comes to my house twice a week to help me maintain my hair in between my visits to the salon. You can follow Corliss on Instagram at @stylesbycorliss.

What tried and true hair care products do you swear by?
My Hicks Edges Gel for smooth edges, and my black castor oil to keep my edges strong. I also love to use a dry shampoo in between washings to keep my hair from getting oily.
