HH: How did the show Weave Trip come about?
SJ: I told them about 2 years ago that we should find a bus and turn the bus into a hair salon. They picked up the idea and we went with it. It’s like Simple Life!
HH: For those who haven’t seen the show, what exactly do you do on these weave trips?
SJ: Each city we go in, we interact with people and do things that we’ve kind of always wanted to do. For example, we do a Mardi Gras parade and a bachelorette bucket list.
HH: You also has her own line of products, Shekinah Jo Beautiful Edges.
SJ: It’s becoming a big line! I have shampoo and conditioner as well and I’m working on shine and spritz and more things coming soon.
HH: Besides your products, what other products do you use and love.
SJ: I love love love Purology. You wash your hair and let the shampoo sit on your hair for 2 minutes and it gives your hair another feel. I also like Wild Growth. For people who wear sew-ins all the time, it will help grow the hair. But I don’t suggest you use that everyday. I suggest twice a week.
HH: What are some common mistakes you see when it comes to weave and broken hair?
SJ: Not hydrating their own hair. Even after the weave, you still don’t want to be bald. You have to take care your own hair. You have to feed it, give it protein. You have to help it, because if you don’t, it’s going to break.
HH: Exactly. So what suggestions would you give when it comes to weave and breakage?
SJ: Some sew-ins may last 3 or 4 months, but sometimes it’s good to take them out every 2 months because it’s a lot of wear and tear on the actual natural hair. Hair grows better in its natural state, when nothing is on it. I’m a sew in queen but it’s true.
