It’s been a remarkable year for African-Americans in Tinsel Town, with films like The Butler, Fruitvale Station and Captain Phillips receiving worldwide acclaim and recognition. Leading the pack with grace and impeccable style is the stunningly beautiful newcomer, Lupita N’yongo, who stars in the multi-award winning film, Twelve Years a Slave.
Although Lupita has skyrocketed to stardom and has captured the attention of the world, she hasn’t lost the essence of what she hopes to represent with her newfound platform.
BET Takes Hollywood spoke exclusively with Lupita on family, fame and the future, as well as the impact of her image and how she hopes to be an inspiration to all.
“The thing about having your image projected on many screens all over the world is that your image becomes something bigger than you,” Lupita shares in the interview. “It has a life of its own and that that life is inspiring young, dark-skinned or any complexion people to see beauty differently. is a powerful thing.”
BET Takes Hollywood will air directly after the BET Honors awards on Monday, February 24 at 11:00 P.M. ET/PT.
