It’s a simple photo of two parents preparing their daughters’ hair for a typical school day, but the fact that Kordal and Kaleb are a black gay couple raising two daughters and one son outraged several readers.
Garnering over 18,000 likes and almost 3,000 comments, the family snapshot has been subjected to every kind of anti-gay slur and ill response over a man tugging at his little girls curls for what looks like a age-appropriate ponytail. The flick has even continued to raise questions about homosexual men rearing heterosexual children, especially young women, and masculinity five days later.
“Being fathers is getting our daughters up at 5:30 am making breakfast getting them dressed for school and putting them on the bus by 6:30,” the caption reads, “It’s not easy but we enjoy every moment and eveny [sic] minute of #fatherhood.”
And a few swipes through the couple’s Instagram makes that exceptionally clear. Riddled with pics of posed holiday photos, homework sessions and impromptu kiddie cooking lessons, the social page shows off a lot of love within the unique family unit.
The dads’ thoughts on being at the epicenter of an LGBT-related controversy? “We take all of what’s been said in stride. The picture was put out on social media for an opinion so we can’t be mad when people give just that: an opinion.”
